Frontier Bridge vs RN-BSN?

Specialties CNM

Published

I am a new grad RN with an ADN. I work in a Surgical ICU at a level I trauma center. (I've wanted to be a midwife my whole life, but wanted critical care experience right out of school.) I am enrolled in a BSN completion program, but am feeling discouraged (although I love critical care, I miss women and babies- I was a doula for many years).

I started thinking about Frontier's ADN-MSN bridge, but I am concerned that not having a baccalaureate degree in any discipline might hurt me in the future. The bridge program would not only save me a year, but allow me to focus on what I'm truly interested in, instead of forcing me to prove myself in subjects (humanities) in which I am naturally very strong but have no formal credit.

Any thoughts?

I agree. I don't have a BSN either. I decided to apply to Frontier's bridge program also because its cheaper than getting a BSN and MSN separate and it allows me to focus on what I really want to do-women and children.frontier only required 1 yr of experience also.

Frontier, Frontier, Frontier.

Not having a BSN will be trumped by having an MSN! :yeah: Small worry. My friends that did bridge are glad they did....it forced them to move and not quit (I've got a BSN already so lemme just call it quits....I'm feeling lazy now)

Oh you will love love love Frontier. They will renew your appreciation for what you do!

Thank you! I feel the same way. And just talking to one of the counselors about this concern was delightful. Now my concern is getting in with so little nursing experience, even though I have the doula experience; they made very clear that the ADN-MSN bridge is the most popular program!

It's hard to get into, too. For each bridge class, they only accept about 25 applicants total (that's for the CNM, FNP and WHNP programs combined).

Love hearing this! It just reaffirms my decision to apply here!

However, we also enroll classes for the bridge program 4x per year! I'm bridge 64 class - started January 2009.

Does the Bridge application also require the portfolio/paper?

No, no portfolio. You do have to write two essays

Thanks for the quick reply (and the good news)! :)
