Any CNMs with families/small kids?

I am starting Frontier's Bridge (CNEP) program this April (Frontier Bound is in Feb!!) and this has been my dream for a very long time. I am very excited, but now the self doubt and negative self talk creeps in now and again. I am married, work part time, and we have five kids. They are pretty young still (12y, 8y, 7y, 3y, 1y). I would love to meet another CNM, or even a student, that has a younger or larger family like mine.

Thanks...

Ellen

Hi Ellen - I am in a grad program, and will be starting the CNM portion in August. My kids are 7, twins who are 4, and 3. Some of my classmates act like I am crazy, but so far it has been manageable. I have been LOVING my break the last few weeks, but am ready to get back at it. You just have to really schedule your study time - treat it as a priority.

Thank you Bree. That's how I got through my ADN program. I had the three oldest and was pregnant with my fourth at the end. Everyone thought I was crazy, but I just prioritized, scheduled, and didn't waste time doing things like cooking, cleaning, or having fun with my friends.

Really. It was not that bad.

We've been homeschooling until now, but in February my 8, 7, and 3 year old will begin an all day Montessori school. My 12 year old will still homeschool and the baby still breastfeeds constantly. I think it will be better with the Montessori program.

XOXO Thank you.

Yes, this is so true!

Good luck! I am sure you'll do well. You already know what it's like to be a mom in school. The courses are obviously different, but I think in many ways, this could be easier for you. Having already gone through school one time with kids and already knowing what works for you re: studying, balancing kids, etc, is priceless!

Keep us updated about how it goes!

Yes it is truly possible to ba a good mom and homemaker, and to become a midwife!
I started Midwifery school with 7, and had my 8th one week before the OrganicChemistry finals.
The 9th was apparent as I walked up to receive my certificate at graduation (born a few months later)
Number 10 was born after I had worked for two years as a CNM.
Studying is a good time to nurse (if you can juggle those large textbooks)
Don't waste energy fretting.
There may be hard moments of doubt- but just push through them
The older kids pitch in with the younger- my children were so proud!

We will be also, when you finish!

Judy! Thank you for your encouragement. My little one needs to nurse now, but I'll be back later with a few questions.

Midwifejudy,
You're amazing! Ten children, am I right? Wow. I only have four; 13, 11, 6, & 8 months. I'm more motivated now than ever. I'm starting my RN in Aug then on to midwifery school as soon as I can. Good luck to you.
