Does anyone have any advice about programs or any experiences they can share? I've always wanted to work with pregnant women and babies and if I'm going to go ahead and go for my masters this is something I can see myself specializing in because its my biggest interest

There are brick and mortar, as well as online programs to get your MSN, then you sit for boards. Most programs (but not all) require you to work as an RN for a year in L/D or some other women's health related area. Frontier Nursing University is the oldest nursing school in the US and the creator of the WHNP degree. They have an excellent reputation. Are you looking for an online school or a traditional school?

@Bliss911 - I'm in your boat. I'm a couple years older, but I graduated my ADN program mid March, got my first RN job in April (at a long term care/retirement facility, because EVERY acute care facility I looked at wanted a BSN and/or 1yr RN experience in acute care!), and am now looking into how to go about schooling in the specialty I really want - midwife! What programs have you looked into so far?

Some have ADN entry options. Others require a BSN or Bachelor's in another field.

Keep looking for jobs in women's health and L&D. If you love birth and midwifery, you'd probably enjoy taking a doula course. And you'll learn a lot about supporting women in pregnancy and natural birth... and sometimes having doula training gets you invited to a birth... which is always fun. Especially when you're starting out.
