Soon to be CCU Nurse-Any Words of Wisdom?

by loriann

Hi everyone!

I am transferring to the CCU after working on Telemetry/CCU Stepdown for 2 1/2 years. Any words of wisdom? Thoughts on how I should approach my move? I'm used to working on a fast-paced stepdown/interventional procedure unit with 5 patients. What do you think will be the biggest change for me?

I'm getting a 3 month orientation and then will go to nights.

Thanks for any feedback!

Lori

Remember to look at your patient! If all the montors are going crazy, look at your patient and assess them. Color and Vs go a long way. That was they BEST advise I ever got.

Hi loriann, I worked in CCU for ages now, when I first started in CCU I was so anxious and scared esp. I did start my training in Cardiothorasic ward ( a bit pretty much close), so before I officially started in CCU i did tried to Familiarize my self in Basic ECG reading and had an intensive reading regarding cardiovascular assessment for adults and most of all I always do remember what previous mentor says " Treat the patient and not the monitor".
Anyway all the best to you and enjoy your new job.
