Default Re: Pay Scale
I work at a 330-bed community-based hospital in CT and last May's new grads received $24.50. This was an increase over previous years, however, requiring the hospital to give a raise to the previous year's new-hires (so as not ot have the new-grads earning more than those with a year's experience). Evening differential is $1.50, nights and weekends are $2.50 each. Overtime is (I believe) time-and-a-half and bonuses are offered to nurses who pick up at least 4 additional 4-hour shifts in a 4 week long schedule period. (I'm a nursing technician in this facility and I make $12.50/hr base working perdiem. I get the same evening, night, and weekend differential rates.)

I'm still in nursing school, and we recently had a "job fair" to allow us the chance to talk with recruiters in the area (CT, MA, NH, NY, and RI). The base salaries quoted to me for new grads (and yes, I did make sure it was a base quote - before differentials, bonuses, education stuff) ranged from $25.15 - $27.50. It is important to note, of course, that being CT, the cost of living makes these quotes seem less impressive...

I have worked at a VA for 2 1/2 years now. I make $16.00 an hour. upon employment, you are hired at a rate depending on experience. I had only been an LVN for 8 years when I started working for the VA. the Government pays you on a step and grade scale. you can look on the internet under Government pay scale and find out what they pay according to the step and grade. I started out grade 6, step 1. We did recieve the cost of living. Of course RN's get increases when the LVN's do not. I

Our facility does NOT offer shift diff. for 3-11s, 11-7s or w/e shifts. We get time and a half for ALL hours over 8 hours/day..NOT 40 hrs/wk. which is great! Full-timers do NOT get any holiday pay..but if we work holidays..pay is DOUBLE time and if we work 16hrs (double shift)--we get double time and a half..which adds up nicely!! Our cost of living in Cook County Illinois (chicago) is very high..our gasoline is about 1.58/gal. Our retail taxes are 9.25% on everything - including groceries..we jump to Indiana for purchases..NO tax on groceries, and 5% on ALL other purchases... It is so very interesting to see how the salaries differ through the country... The facilities in Indiana, which borders my area, pay much less than in Illinois...d/t cost of living..... Agencies and hospital registries in Illinois are paying near 50 and just over 50 bucks/hr for midnite/evening/weekend shifts in critical care areas. Just saw an ad for 50 bucks an hour at Little Company of Mary in Evergreen Park, IL... Move here and aleviate our shortage !!! Keep Smiling !! :-)
I know they pay 27.80 for rn's on 3-11

I'll add that differentials can add up in the right hospital. for my experience level I had a base of 26.50 plus 6.50 in differentials- this was in CVSICU,day shift. Night shift would get a $10,000 bonus after 2 years on top of all the other differentials. I loved that place-- sadly I had to leave

Default "on-call" pay for Cardiac Cath
How does my hospital compare? For hours spent "on-call," i.e., available to work for a specified time, e.g., 12 midnight to 8 a.m. (and able to get to the hospital within 45 minutes), we receive pay as follows: 3/4 time PER HOUR if not called in and TIME-and-one-HALF if actually reporting to the hospital for emergency work--PLUS, if I am called in, I get paid for a minimum of 4 hrs at the overtime rate. Thanks!

nyforlove, that's pretty good call pay. My hospital gives $2.25 per hour beeper pay, then when you actually come in it's time and a half. The minimum is 2hrs even if you're only there for 30 mins.

In North FL RNs with 5-10 yrs are making $28-$29 for critical care. I started out at $17.25 8 years ago as a GN.
