In Oregon, the average starting pay for new grads is $23hr, with deferiantals for swing, night and weekend. Also there is a choice between 8hr and 12 hr shifts.

I am an RN with 3 years experience. I work in Michigan. I work the night (7p to 7a) shift in a cardiac step down unit and make $21.50 an hour, working 36 hours a week. But, I'm also not sure what your cost of living is. About 1/3 of my pay goes for taxes.

I went to a community hospital Pool and made 31.50, weekends 7a-7p. I am now doing agency $40/hour. We are so desperate on the East coast. I know of some facilites that will pay you $48/hour for working 3/4 weekends!
I am confused as to what an agency is. What do you do different there than in a hospital?

Nurse Re: Pay Scale
Hi,

Here in Michigan as a GN (graduate nurse) pay starts at around $22. I work in the Emergency Dept, which also happens to be a Level 1 trauma center. Once you taken the boards and have gotten your RN pay starts anywhere from $23-30. And if you are contingent without benefits the pay caps off at $38/hr. I was considering moving south, but I'm re-cconsidering. I graduate in May 2006. As a student I make $16/hr. I'm very blessed.

Hello, first time I have posted on this site. I don't think any nurse gets paid what they are worth. We are an overworked, underpaid profession.

Nurse Re: Pay Scale
I live in Michigan. I have been a nurse for 7 years and making 29.00 a hour working Telemetry unit. The pay averages between 22-29.00 depending on how long you have been a RN. Payscale also depends whether or not a hospital is union/non-union. Typically, an union comes w/better pay.

Michelle.

Pay Scale:

Working prn in Wichita Falls, Tx @ the local ICU my base pay was $27 an hr w/ a 15% diff for nights and $4 hr diff for weekends. When I was a new grad in 2000 in an ICU in Tyler, Tx I was making $18 hr plus diffs.
The big problem with nurses and salaries is we are always considered an expense where the doctors/providers are considered revenue makers. The hospital administrators will always try to keep our salaries as low as they can and still keep nurses from leaving.
