I've got a bit of a problem - my new employer (a doctor) has asked me if I can be a cath lab nurse. At first, I was happy because I wanted to work there... but only after 2-3 years! You see, I have only 6 months of hospital experience in a busy Med-Surg ward, but I have my EKG training, BLS and ACLS certification (in preparation for MICU or SICU). And the doctor wants me to be in his CCU or Cath Lab. I'm happy, but I'm so scared, knowing that the patients that I will be dealing with are unstable... and I don't want to be a team member who slows the whole team. Can you give me any advice? Is it advisable that I turn down the doctor's offer? Is there a way that I can learn to be a Cath Lab nurse? Your replies are greatly needed... and so much appreciated!! Thank you.
