ccu step down?

Hi,
i graduated 3 yrs ago! but have been working for a private dr since. I really want to go back to the hospital and get some acute care experence. When i went to nursing school i new i wanted to do cc nursing, but had to work for my boss and was not able to do so till now. But i am worried that being out of school this long its not the best place for me to start! tell me about cc step down? is it a good medium between icu, med sug? i have an offer for l&D which is the closes thing to what i am doing in the mds office. but not what i wan tto do long term. any adv?
