Sternal Plate Placement

Has anybody ever seen a patient have a sternal plate placed? They are doing one in my OR in the upcoming days for a patient that is post-sternectomy for sternal infection. Anyone know about this or what the outcomes are? I have never heard of it before and am wondering if it is a new procedure or just new to me.

I have previously seen post-sternectomy patients just live that way (with floating ribs.)
