Is there anyone else out there who is currently studying for the CCRN exam and would like to start a thread as perhaps a study and support group? I have just applied for the exam and have not yet set a date, but about in 3 months is when I will be taking it. I would love to be in communication with others in the same boat! I hope there is at least one other nurse out there! Thanks!

Started doing some light reading today on lab values (from icufaqs.org)....I can't stand studying for the GRE anymore

If anyone needs a little boost with PA caths/swans, this is THE website to go to (AND ITS FREE!!): http://www.pacep.org/

Its really comprehensive; i've been chugging away for a couple months now.

Hope everyone else is finding time to study! I'll just have to wait for my week off I guess:rolleyes:

LOL I hate when work cuts in on my life!! One question, were you able to use any of your solidifying ICU knowledge on the admission? Maybe you were preparing for the test!!! hehe

I have gotten through Laura hemodynamics once more and it is much better this time. I've decided I'm not going to stray far from her material. Maybe a few of the Dennison questions on disc. Does anyone have trouble with that Dennison disc? It gets this overload error msg and then you have to start all over. Very frustrating.

I work 3 12 hour shifts this weekend, so I may not get to say much until after the weekend. Happy studying to all. See you on the flipside!!!

Unfortunately, no critical thinking skills were needed for this one!! "Respiratory distress & Sepsis" came in on room air with a blood pressure of 99/54, afebrile, transfered by self from wheelchair to bed. :lol2::uhoh3:

Have a good weekend everyone!

;)I bought the Laura Gasparis Vonforolio cd's and book this spring, have viewed them at leisure. I had originally considered taking the test "this fall" but haven't been studying much with summer and some family illness issues. I actually haven't even been to allnurses since May! I had the day off today and thought I would check in. I am so glad you guys are here and have started this thread. Add me to your list of study buddies.

I am thinking November would be an opportune time to sit for the exam. My facility will reimburse me for the exam and membership once I have passed. No big hourly pay increase but it does count in the carreer ladder program so I will see some financial benefit. With that said, I also hear from seasoned RN's who don't have the certification the negative comments stated by other posters. I too am completing this for my own satisfaction and knowledge and they can do/say whatever they want. It doesn't effect me. I have pretty much decided that no one needs to know when I'm taking it. I'll let them know when I pass.

Keep me posted on your progress, and thanks for re-motivating me. I'm off to study!

LoL, classic.

Welcome stressgal! That makes 8 of us!!!!

Yea, don't pay attention to people who choose to say negative things about working towards the certificate. I am finding that this is a very personal experience, both with the journey and the rewards of gaining all that knowledge.

Allright!!!! Thanks so much for joining our little group!!! It is my intention to keep this thread going on into the future, I would actually like it to include those who already have their CCRN as well, to offer support and speak to how it has changed their practice, there are a few who post here occasionally. So far here are the people who are in the process of studying and who are following the thread that I know of: ElizabethJRN, Burnt2, Emernurse, Hoozdo, CardiacRN2006, ruralRN, Stressgal and myself. We lost roo-tang.

I believe Hoozdo will be the first to test on 7/25. I also think most of us are night nurses and I believe we are all using Dr Laura's material as one of our primary sources of material. (If any of this is wrong, I apologize). I will send you a personal message with the tips I have received on what to memorize for the exam. It is really inspiring to be in communication with like minded nurses who are positive about nursing and want to empower their careers and practices.

:groupwelcome::lol2::lol2::lol2::lol2::lol2::lol2::lol2::lol2: all of us when we pass!!!

Study update:

I'm focusing on endocrine today; i watched the AACN and the gasparis endo dvds this morning, I'm watching them again before work tonight; i'm also taking the mp3's to work on my ipod just in case it's slow.

As a side: Gasparis is definitely better; she just gives you what you need to know. The AACN speaker straight out said "we won''t test you on adrenal insufficiency" and then went into a bunch of slides talking about diagnosis and treatment.

nurse power!:lol2::lol2:;););););)

That's cool, you are learning even if you won't be tested. Next time you have a guy with adrenal insufficiency you can yell,"get me the glucocorticoids stat!!!!" LOL

I have such a tiny brain though....oh well, you're right....I tend to have a negative attitude sometimes

does anyone here do cvvh/prisma? I'm looking for some kind of online ed thing

Isn't cvvh constant hemodialysis and prisma a wound dressing? In any case we do ultrafiltration at our hospital and daily dialysis runs but I have yet to see anyone on CVVH. In other words, I don't know.

PRISMA is the actual brand of one of the CVVHD machine. We do CVVHD but I have yet to be trained, since they keep canceling the class. And yes, I have complained about that. Sorry, I'm no help!
