Is there anyone else out there who is currently studying for the CCRN exam and would like to start a thread as perhaps a study and support group? I have just applied for the exam and have not yet set a date, but about in 3 months is when I will be taking it. I would love to be in communication with others in the same boat! I hope there is at least one other nurse out there! Thanks!

And then there were 5.......!!!!!!

YYYYAAAAAAYYYYYY that is so awesome that you are taking the exam in September, that is approximately when all 5 of us will be testing. Congratulations on already having your CEN!! Are you sure your badge will hold all your initials??!!! hehe I love Vonfrolio's material, I just received her DVD's last Friday and she makes the material so interesting and engaging that it is fun to study.

Is that your baby on your Avatar?? Talk about cute!!!

I will send you a personal message with the tips I have received. No big surprises really.

Take care, happy studying!! :lol2::lol2::lol2:

The Avatar is my Grandson, Dane, who is now 5 1/2 months old - he's my ANGEL!!!

I just registered for a VonFrolio Acute Skills 2-day seminar in Key West for September - I'm so excited!!

I'm a relatively new grad; I graduated May '05 and went straight to CCU....so it's going to be a challenge, but I think if I study hard enough I should do ok

Hey, I graduated Dec 05 and went straight to MICU! Glad to hear there are more of us taking this!

Oh, and about the credentials, they won't put CCRN on our name badges anymore! I guess because some family member found out what they stand for and one time requested only CCRN RNs for their family member (or so I'm told) ???!

And too bad Vonfrolio isn't coming here to MN earlier, I have to take mine by Oct. 2nd!

Good to hear there are more studying! Yah!

Hey everybody! How is the studying going? Today I am feeling a little overwhelmed. Just received my information to pick a date, I need to test before 10/10. Does anyone have their date set? Are you going to take some days off beforehand? I'm thinking at least a couple of days? I just finished viewing Vonfrolio's DVD's on the heart and lungs, man she flies through that content!!! My head is spinning. I need to just step and breath a little. Hope studying is going well for all.

my spinning head!!

I'm taking it 9/24 - I haven't had much time to study though since i'm also prepping for the GRE (9/18), and applying to 5 different universitys for grad school. ick.

I'm at work right now.....I'm floating to the ER tonight (I work in CCU)....all those angry families who've waited for hours.......man I love my locked ICU doors.

Burnt2, what are you going to grad school for? ...and I'm jealous, I want a locked ICU!!

I've moved away from studying cardiac for awhile and am now onto respiratory, much more my area!! (MICU).

And deeDawntee, I am trying to get back to my inbox to PM you back but I still have to figure out how to get there ;)

Add 6 to the list of studiers! I am a Dec 05 graduate that went to MICU. My work gives a great incentive for CCRN - an additional 4 bucks an hour if you are even studying for it. I have until December to take it, but have the authorization to test now.

I have the Laura Gasparis Vonoflio DVDs, the AACN tapes, CCRN pass it now. My work mates said the CCRN Pass It Now questions were the most helpful. I bought all of these items on Ebay.

I think I am going to schedule my date around 7/24. There is a very low fail rate within my ICU.

welcome to the clan :-)

Man, there's alot of us "new grads" studying for this! Awesome! All the more reason for us to pass it.....

I think I am going to schedule my date around 7/24.

How long have you guys been studying for? 6 of you studying together? I'm jealous. It's like pulling teeth in our unit.

I'm applying for 1 FNP, 3 CRNA, and 1 PA programs. Really anything that will accept me, hehe. My undergrad gpa is underwhelming, but I have a 4.0 in grad school right now.

I can't believe you get an additional 4 bucks an hour!!!!!!!! We only get a yearly bonus of about 300 or 400 bucks. I need to move to your hospital!!! ;)

It's kinda like pulling teeth on my unit too, but now that I've been mentioning the test, people are like..."hmmm i should get on that..."

I've been studying the last 3 weeks I think, mostly cardiac so far :)

Burnt2 ~ wow, that's quite the variety of grad schools! You don't have a preference? I've thought about CRNA, but the 2 years with no pay is kinda making me leery about it.

We don't get any incentive :(

purely academic

i'm applying to really any/everything.....I have no preference. I'll see what program accepts me then I'll decide.

YYYAAAAAAYYYYY........and then there were 6!!!! How is your studying going, your test date is coming up the soonest of all of us, I believe. It seems that you work in an environment where getting your CCRN is accepted and encouraged, do you feel any resentment or resistance from those who don't have it? $4 an hour is a great incentive!!

By the way, who is that adorable dog on your Avatar? what a cutie!

I would like this thread to also include support for after we all get our CCRN certificates to support others who are going through the process... is there anyone out there who has recently or had their CCRN for a long time who could talk about how it has (or hasn't) empowered their practice? It would be great if we could use this to encourage others to take the plunge. How about cjmue12? How has it impacted your practice?

Last night I had a pt with DKA and septic shock, I'm telling you, my studying really empowered me and I was able to interact with the Docs in a way that really made a difference for the patient. She was truly falling through the cracks. Very very cool.

Can we do at least a weekly check in or even daily would be great, what are you studying, even tips or techniques that you use to remember stuff. How are you feeling, anything at all, I would love to hear from everybody daily, but hey that's just me. This thread is for us, we can use it as fully as we want, don't you think? And anyone else out there who has things to offer or add, please do!!!

I think this is the 6: ElizabethJRN, roo-tang, Burnt2, Emernurse, Hoozdo and myself.

I'm not planning on going anywhere after the test is over, so any of you who are considering it, or just want to start studying and be in communication here, please jump on board. Thanks to all.

:lol2::lol2::lol2::lol2::lol2::lol2: the 6 of us after we pass!!!

Everyone in my whole unit was given the $4 incentive and have one year to pass the CCRN. We greatly expanded our ICU from 8 beds to 26 beds, so this was used as a hiring incentive. Nobody wants to lose that 4 bucks - so everybody is getting certified. :lol2:

That dog in my avatar is laying right next to me. She is from the humane society as a puppy. I have another dog from the humane society as well as 4 cats. And my husband....

I took two weeks off of work and am going to Las Vegas on Tuesday, come back Friday, then full time study until my CCRN day. I find that I get too lazy on my days off to study more that a couple of hours. I am going to dedicate myself to studying all day, every day.

I suspect the cardiac section and hemodynamics will be the most difficult for me!
