Is there anyone else out there who is currently studying for the CCRN exam and would like to start a thread as perhaps a study and support group? I have just applied for the exam and have not yet set a date, but about in 3 months is when I will be taking it. I would love to be in communication with others in the same boat! I hope there is at least one other nurse out there! Thanks!

If I did it, you all can do it too! I have finally figured out what the synergy model is---------a fancy name for therapeutic communication. I loved those synergy model questions :wink2:

There was a lady at the next computer BANGING her calculator for about an hour disturbing me. I don't know what test she was taking, I didn't need a calculator for anything. Total test time=2 hours, 3 hours allowed.

Thanks for your encouragement!

I have not logged in for six days, and boy have you guys been busy!

My father went to the Dr. for "routine" appointment Friday, BP 80/palp, sent to ER, HGB 4, Creat 9. Said he had felt a "bit weak" the last two days. Yes, he's ESRD and refuses dialysis. Creat has been 7 for the past two years. He got some blood, fluids, then an EGD and colonoscopy, cat scan, and abdominal US. Pretty upset they put him through all the tests. They even had a suregry consult placed for him for a polyp. He was at a hospital three counties away and with the stepmother issues didn't get calls when I should/could have. He had decided (when diagnosed) he wasn't going to do dialysis. Filled out a DNRCCA.

Oh well. He's at home with O2, says he feels "great, no problems!". He's still up and walking around. He went to the county fair to watch the grandkids show 4H today, spent the day, ate a snow cone and all the fair food he could handle. Needless to say, I plan on spending as much time as we have left together. I still would like to test in November, but he comes first.

With that said...haven't studied much this week. Have re-covered lots of renal, electrolyte, hemodynamic info for reminders.

I am so proud and excited for you all. Keep up the good work!

CONGRATS HOOZDO!!!!!!! That is the encouragement we need, the first person to pass!!! :balloons::balloons::monkeydance::balloons: What a great b-day present!!!! We are so proud of you!!!

Sorry I have been away for a few days, my computer had a virus :(

Stressgal, I'm sorry about your father! I'm glad he's at least feeling good, and at home.

Off topic: As far as the migraines, yes I went to the neurology clinic. I could not get into a neurologist until October, so I went to the NP, and she was awesome. I am now on Depakote daily, apparently it is now FDA approved to prevent migraines. There were 3 other classes of meds that are used to prevent migraines, but are made for other things (example: calcium-channel blockers). Plus I have 3 meds I am supposed to take once I get a migraine :) Dawn, I would see a specialist asap, I wish I had gone sooner!!!! If you want more info, PM me, she went into great detail about some stuff.

Off to study!! Good luck everyone!!

So sorry to see that you have had to go through all of this. It sounds like you have an incredible father!!! Good for him for knowing what he wants and sticking to it. He sounds like he is quite a fighter. My folks had me late in life, so I lost them young, my Mom died when I was 30. It is such a difficult thing to go through. Please use this thread for support, as far as I'm concerned that is what we are here for: to support each other as we prepare (or postpone) for the CCRN.

It is all good. As I have said, I would like to keep up this thread ongoingly, I hope a few of us will, to support others as they go through this process.

I am soooo glad that you found someone to help you!! Can you believe how busy neurologists are? Is it that way all over the country? Anyway, I have recently started Zonnegran (an antieleptic) which has been a true miracle drug for me. Plus other stuff to help if a migraine breaks through, which doesn't happen much anymore.

I'm glad it was your computer with a virus and not you!!!

I am sitting here with a 1:1 patient in the rewarming stage of the hypothermic protocol. He is on Levo, for pressure support, Fentanyl, Diprivan and Vec for sedation. The poor man came in s/p v fib arrest, decerbrate posturing. As he was cooled down, he went into decorticate posturing and now everyone is waiting to see what his neurologic function will be. He will be warmed up to goal at about 0700. It is very interesting. I had a patient maybe a year ago who came in posturing and eventually walked out of the hospital thanks to the hypothermia therapy. She had deficits, but was functioning pretty well. I need to do more research on this, what does it actually do, besides letting the heart and body rest as much as possible. Anyone know of any good resources on it? Yep nothing like watching a patient warm up!!! a little like my other favorite hobby: watching the grass grow!!! Hey but I am not complaining, hehe.

:rolleyes::yawn:
