I have a job interview today for a CM position for ICU/CCU/Burn Ctr. I have 12 years of med surg/ICU experience at a small community hospital. I am nervous but excited. I had a brief phone interview on Friday.

I am glad the two of you landed your positions. Congrats!

I am sure you did fine, I think the interviews are perfunctory.

I wish you luck, and let us know....

We newbies need to stick together

You both still like your CM jobs? I interviewed yesterday. I'm not sure. I like the idea of getting away from the bedside, the problem solving, the independent decision making, but am not sure how overwhelming it would be. I currently work as an outpatient RN oncology/charge nurse.

it will be challenging, and you will feel overwhelmes at times! everyone does, in the beginning....you can plan on at least 6 months until you really feel like you are competent in your new role.

however, the time and the effort is well worth it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i went into cm about two years ago, and i have't looked back! i have finally found my niche, and don't see myself ever working in another area of nursing. i just sat for my ccm (yesterday!) and am considering getting msn in case management.

please feel free to pm me if you have any questions or would like additional information.

good luck to you!

I have a pending offer for worker's comp cm, but am waiting on background check, they say it takes about a week. What actually are companies looking for in background checks, what would cause you to lose the job offer - why does it take so long?? Any additional info would be greatly appreciated.

I'm jealous! I had an interview about ten days ago and it didn't go nearly as well as I thought it would. I can't tell you how much I want a CM job. I have a good reputation in the hospital I work at and hope for some good references. I didn't plan on an interview from a NEW inexperienced director. She focused on one thing, which was stress and which is obviously HER problem. She filled in for a CM recently and was yelling at an insurance company all afternoon. I could have choked when she said my actions would reflect on our hospital. No kidding! I could only imagine what that insurance company thought about her! She focused on stress which I happen to deal with very well, clearly she does not. After the interview, I thanked her boss who was also at the interview. I told her the truth about my feelings. She Emailed me to say she'd call me next week when she returns from vacation. I just can't stand bedside nursing anymore. I know I'd love CM. I'm going for my Masters and working anything other than part-time/per diem at this point would be tough, thus I'm having a hard time finding a job anywhere. I really feel like crap about this. BUT good luck to you all!

I am waiting on the hospital to call me today with the interview time. I was scheduled for Thursday of last week...but was stuck in jury duty.......they rescheduled it for last Friday...and again was in jury duty.......... I talked to the lady that sets the appts up after I got out of court on Friday and she is to call me today.

The interview that was originally set for last Thursday was made before Thanksgiving.........so I am getting a little antsy....lol

The official title is "Care Manager".......I will have to interview with the "team lead" and the "director" the same day in two different interviews.

I have done ICU (CCU, MICU, SICU, HTICU) and home care/hospice....in all have worked as a staff nurse and in management. I am excited to interview for this position.... I have worked with some of the care managers in the units and have always been fascinated with what they do.

Hopefully she will call soon, and things will go well....

Had one of the interviews today with the Team lead. I have to go back on Monday and interview with the Director. I was told today that if the Director thinks I am a good fit, then I will go to talk with the other Care Mgr in the service that this job is for, and possibly one or two of the physicians for that service. Does that sound normal??

This position is for the Trauma service at a teaching facility.

Specializes in Tele/ICU/MedSurg/Peds/SubAcute/LTC/Alz.

Congratulations to all of you.

Case management is something I am interested in as well.
