Case Management Jobs from Home

by PEDSVA

I have been a nurse for 7years in various areas of Pediatrics. My most recent specialty change was to the CICU. I have been there for 1 year after completing the nursing fellowship last spring. I am already starting to feel burned out with 12 hour shifts and the additional requirements. Oh forgot to mention I just gave birth to my 3rd child last august. I have tried many areas of pediatrics(which I love) but nothing seems to be my calling and I miss the time taken away from my family. Is there a position particulary in pediatric cardiology that I could do from home? How would I go about finding out what I need to do to become certified in CM or possibly get a master's in case managment? What are good websites to obtain more info. about the various roles of a CM? Thanks for your help.

Pediatric cardiology seems too specific for home CM. You could possibly get a CM position that works from home eventually in pediatrics though. To become CM certified you need to work 1 year under a certified case manager or 2 yrs doing it not under a certifie case manager, then you sit or an exam.
Type in on allnurses.com case managemnt certification, there are specific guidelines on the website.
This website is invaluable, scroll through some of the different posts, others have asked the same questions. Good luck.

The insurer I work for has a program specific to congenital heart disease. It's a blend of interaction with the patient (well, parents) and utilization review. There is the option of working from home.

Feel free to PM me for details. I don't really like to advertise where I work...

Previous poster was dead on re: CCM cert. You need the CM job first, then the certificate. Regarding a Master's in CM...I did some (very basic) research. Didn't really seem to suit my needs, seemed to emphasize CM in rural populations. That seems to be a "newer" degree, it will be interesting to see how it progresses...
