Become Certified Case Manager, no CM experience

  1. 0 Hello all: Newbie Here so forgive me if I'm not posting in the right place.

I want to become a certified case manager so as to increase my chances of getting a position. I have over 14 years of nursing experience, some home health, chart auditing but no direct insurance exp. DO I Have to find a CM job and get experience before I can get certified? I'm confused on the qualifications.

I,m new to case management, after 12 years in the hospital. From what I,ve been told, is you have to have at least 1 yr. On the job before you can or aree expected to take the cm exam.

yes, you need to get a job and work experience before you can sit for your certification exam. in fact, a good indication that a case management certification is not legit or is pure fluff is that it is offered without the need for work experience. here is a thread that will help you to better understand the process. gl.
