Just interesting in "moving up", and curious what the main job requirements are .... any observations? anyone with experience in that position?

In our hospital - asst managers have to be BSN's with several years of charge experience - preferably on the floor where the opening is. Good luck...every hospital is different.

I have just started working as the assistant manager on my unit (telemetry). This is my second time in this role. I worked at another hospital doing this. So far I'm doing scheduling no payroll but did that at prior facility. Level one discipline. Inservices, chart audits, going to meetings. Rounding on patients to see if they have complaints or going to them if thet already have complaints and of course listening to whatever the staff is upset about at the moment. Not a bad gig and a good way to move up in the company.

I just took an assistant manager position myself. Sounds like a lot of the same funtions chart audits patient and staff complaints level one discipline interviews going to meetings. I dont do payroll or staffing as we have a secretary who does this. I would rather do that myself as I did at my old job but thats the way the hospital works it here.

Be careful what you want. At my hospital all head nurses must also do direct patient care and depending on how well you are staffed depends on your load. In addition to scheduling, mentoring, and whatever other managerial duties you might have.

I took a position as Tele AD in January and it sounds like the duties are very similar. We do staffing, scheduling (self scheduling by staff is in progress), hiring, mentoring, discipline and evaluations. Patient rounding and conflict resolution (we do have help from our Service Excellence Dept.) with patients, families and physicians. On occation we staff the units. Then there's compliance monitoring, some staff education. We are expected to be the clinical experts for the service, so we attend all training reqiured by the staff. I don't think I will go on...it's my day off! :uhoh3:

I am a new Clinical Manager or assistant. What constitutes a level one discipline?
