Can anyone bullet out the Hyper/Hypo/Isotonic solutions and their indications of use and MOA (mechanism of action)? BRIEF AND SIMPLE please. I am trying to make a chart for myself in my binder @ work in my educational reference part. Thanks

Try searching the nursing student forums - I have seen this done very well recently by Daytonite and others.

NS Volume expander
Blood transfusion
Hypercalcemia
Diabetic ketoacidosis

D5W Dehydration
Hypernatremia

LR Burns
GI Fluid Loss
Blood Loss
Hypovolemia due to 3rd spacing

Hypotonic
1/2NS Hypertonic dehydration (when cells shrink)
NG suctioning
Diabetic ketoacidosis

Hypertonic
D5Half Diabetic ketoacidosis

D5NS Hypotonic dehydration (when cells swell)
SIADH
Addisonian crisis

D10 Free H2O replacement
