Common cardiac drugs and implications

I will (hopefully) be working on a telemetry unit soon. I was hoping some experienced cardiac nurses could share the most common drugs they administer and their implications (different labs to check/BP/HR, etc.). I thought it might help brush up on certain drugs before I start working. I would also like to hear about common procedures you might see alot. Thanks!

Default Re: Common cardiac drugs and implications
Here's a short list of typical meds:

beta-blockers (metoprolol)
calcium channel blockers (diltiazem)
digoxin
diuretics (lasix)
ASA
heparin
Plavix
nitrates (short and long-acting)
ACE Inhibitors (lisinopril)
ARBs (valsartan)
antiarrhythmics (amiodarone, flecanide)
clonidine
insulins

If you can understand the basics of the classes, it will be easier. I'll let you pull out the book and brush up, but at least you'll have a road map.

Good luck,
Tom
