Cardiac Cath Lab nursing

Hello, I am a RN who currently works in NICU and I have been pretty interested in Cardiac Cath lab how does one get into this training? What are the working hours? I am curious I am feeling a need to change and try something different I love nursing as a whole because of the opportunities such as this. Any replies I would greatly appreciated. Hi Natasha. I'm a CVL RN for the last 6 years. It's a great gig. Always interesting and I work with some amazing people. I worked in ICU for many years and when the cath lab opening came up I applied. At our facility a critical care background is required tho we do have one nurse who came from a telemetry background. Hours vary from hospital to hospital but we work 8 or 10 hour shifts (10's for me) and are on call at least one day a week and one weekend every 4 to 6 weeks. Training is done in the lab at our facility. You just jump in and do it with someone as a preceptor for a few weeks. When you're ready they throw you into the deep end of the pool. Hope this helps.
