working casual

I have just gone from part time to casual-my choice because I want to be with the kids more. Anyway, I am wondering how it works in other workplaces-as in 1) are you required to do a minimum number of shifts? 2) do you have to work any holidays?

Our casuals are supposed to guarantee they will work at least four shifts a month, one of those being on a weekend, and a certain number of holidays a year. In reality, they are pretty much allowed to do whatever they want.

I work in an OR and we dont work weekends or holidays but I was wondering how it works elsewhere.

Are they supposed to give availability for 4 shifts or actually work 4 shifts?

If you are a member of ONA, the requirement I believe is one shift per year. Check with your union.

One shift a year??? That is beyond ridiculous.
