Whitehorse

Hi,
I currently reside in Calgary and I am looking to relocate...possibly Whitehorse? Does anyone have any advice about this city/hospital? What is the Northern Living allowance (can't find it online) and what do nurses get paid?
Thanks in advance

Yeah, it's cold! I don't know much about the hospital other than we get a few kids we transport from there every year... one in particular who just seems to like it in our unit much better than at home!

Check out this document... it has a lot of very interesting information in it and it should be able to tell you about pay scales and northern allowance: http://www.nursesunion.mb.ca/pdf%20f...p(4-17-07).pdf

Hope it helps.

I met a couple of nurses from Yellowknife at Convention a couple of years back and they had only good things to say about their jobs and life up there. Guess its what you make of it.

But as Jan said, a lot of the patients from the far north are sent down to Edmonton for surgeries. We have a few of the surgical patients and high risk Mums down here now.

You'd really have to know what area of nursing you were interested in to see if it's up there..

Thank you for the article, I couldn't find anything on it regarding Yukon nurses and northern living allowance...it was definitely interesting to see the differences in pay among the provinces though!

I found a career posting for Whitehorse General Hospital at this site:
http://www.whitehorsehospital.ca/car...s/ENindex.html

This is the location of the collective agreement between Whitehorse General Hospital and PIPSC.
http://portal.pipsc.ca/portal/page/p...llagree.en.pdf

Stanton General Hospital in Yellowknife pays a northern allowance of $2,302 per year and offers "full relocation reimbursement", whatever that encompasses. Does that help?

I went to the Whitehorse emerg a number of times with kids from a camp I was working at. The hospital looked new and clean and very modern. The staff in the emerg were always nice and professional.
Whitehorse in the winter is cold but in the summer it is beautiful. Shorts weather in the day, pants at night. Lots of hiking, kayaking, rock climbing, camping etc that you can do.
