What takes the CNRE so long to grade the exam?

by X-treme

I'm perplexed at the fact that the CNRE takes almost 3 months to mark the exam. I'm even more confused when writers who take the exam in the 'odd' months (January, August, October) have to wait the same time frame as the busier months (June) when there are less than half the places to write at and i'm sure less than half the amount of people writing it.

Why is that? All answers are inputted via computer and there are minimal short answers to be marked. They need to speed up the process. I say one month max.

I agree. There is no good reason this shouldn't be graded in a month or much less. There's definitely something fishy about it all.

Something has to be changed. It's cruel and unual punishment, and I cannot think of another profession it happens to.

However I think that no one complains because once you get your marks back you are on the top of the world, or else too busy studying to complain, so it's not a priority.

Did it take this long to come back before the short answers were added?

Yes it did. I wrote the first week in August and got my mark the third week in October. Back in those days, the format was different even from a few years ago. We actually wrote four exams over two days. There were 700 questions and you needed to score 450 or higher to pass. (I got 642...) Then there was the registration rigmarole of paying for a full year but only being registered for two months before it had to be done again. So as you can see, not much has changed that's for the better.

Someone advised me to take the exam in Oct instead of this past Aug because of the way registration works (Oct-Sept), but I am pretty sure the people in Edmonton told me it was pro-rated now. Dunno.

Prorated, huh? It's still 75% of the regular registration fee. I paid $75 a week for three weeks' practice when I moved here four years ago. I started work on September 9 and had to reregister immediately for October 1. Nobody told me that when I registered in August... I found out when I got my renewal forms the day after my license arrived. They wouldn't roll it all into one.
