You can still get a TN visa at the border, thanks to NAFTA. BUT, you need to do a visa screen first (that's the change). This process takes months. You can get the info from
www.cgfns.org , look for Visa screen information for Canadian health care professionals under NAFTA or something to that effect. You have to send them documentation from your school and the boards of nursing underwhich you have registered (actually, you get your school and BONs to send the info). They "verify" that your credentials are in order and send you your visa screen.
Then, once you are registered in the state you want to work in you go to the border with your visa screen, proof of education, proof of lisencure and offer of work letter from your hospital and they will give you a NAFTA TN visa. This allows you to work for a year in the US, and you can renew it as many times as you want.
