US ADN Degree, Can I work in BC?

by berger

I will be finishing with an Assosicate Degree in Nursing (ADN) from a US school. I just got my Canadian immigrant visa, I was wondering if I can work in BC as a registered nurse. Would anyone know how much RNs are making in BC?

Technically this post should be on the International forum but you haven't actually asked for immigration information so I'll answer it here... To practice anywhere in Canada you have to write the Canadian Registered Nurse Exam, which is as hard as but very different from the NCLEX. You also have to be registered in the jursidiction where you were educated. Each province ahs a few differenly niggly rules they want followed too. THE CRNBC web site has really good information about how to obtain a BC license, so you should check it out. http://www.crnbc.ca/RegRenewal/Apply...Applicant.aspx

As for what you'd make as a nurse in BC, there's more to it than just the hourly pay rate. There's a sticky at the top of the home page for this forum that links to a cross-country comparison of pay and benefits that will help you unravel all of that. http://allnurses.com/forums/f108/cro...ts-285829.html

You will be required to pass the NCLEX exam before they will look at your application, even if you never plan to work in the US. The Canadian provinces require the local license for everyone that applies there.

And be aware that the licensure exam is only offered several times per year, not like the US.
