Hey Sarah,

I was just wondering if you've registered for your group (I'm in group 3), and if anyone who got accepted for Sept 09 registered already. Also, have you seen the textbook list!? There is like 16 books on there, do you think we'll be using them all? I'm trying to get some used online, but it looks like the one's we need are the most updated editions

take care

Hi Sarah, yes the workload is intense. Plan to have absolutely no social life for 18 months. Sorry to sound like a downer but it is really tough and everyone complains. Apparently though, the program for the Sep 2009 intake has changed due to many students not being able to cope with the existing program and demanding schedule. I hope for all your sakes that it lightens up a bit. There is currently 50% theory and 50 % practical. Clinicals for my intake were two days per week 8 hours per day for the first term plus all the course work. The Second term is 1-12 hour shift per week for 6 weeks and 2-10 hour shifts for the 2nd 6 weeks in one term. Some instructors are great, some not so much. If you want more of the scoop email me direct.

Hey Lazz1,
Yes, there are sooo many text books, it's crazy! I doubt we will need them all, but did you recieve an email about the text books being like on a chip/disk or something that you can upload to your computer??? Or did I misinterpret this email? I think the reason for this is so that we won't have to carry the books around with us...hmmm

Hi michelle8888,

Thanks for the information Yes, I can imagine that the program will be intense, kinda scared and nervous about that...but I guess if you don't have a social life for 18 months then it's do-able I wasn't aware that the Sept.2009 intake has changed and yes, it would definitely be nice if the course load is a bit lighter.

Once again, thanks so much for the information...and just out of curiosity, which semester are you in? or are you already done the program? Also, I will take you up on emailing you directly if i need more of the scoop, thanks for replying and being so helpful

Take care!

Hey Sarah_604,

I got that e-mail too. I've used a similar e-Text before for the Biochemistry 302/303 textbook, and it was so handy. For my BIOC 303 text, it came as a PDF file, and I can use the "find" function to quickly search keywords, I don't have to lug it around, I can print off pages that I thought were important, etc. Do you know when the textbooks will be ready at the Bookstore?

And also, anyone here in Group 5?

Hey Browning20,

Glad to hear the e-Text is helpful, I think it's a good idea too And I believe they are available in the bookstore now, but I am not 100% sure...I think I will go in the next week or two to the UBC campus to get mine

I checked the bookstore today, a good 95% of the books we need is not on the shelves....from past experiences with the bookstore, late August is the prime time to go book shopping...by then the books have arrived, and you beat the long line ups.

Aw man... although I guess I could wait a bit longer to part ways with my textbook fund. Judging by the length of the textbook list, it's going to be quite an expensive investment right there.

Also, anyone going to invest in a better-quality stethoscope other than the one offered by Aloft (e.g. a Littmann)? I've heard both sides of the argument here (one being as a Nursing student you don't need the best, other being you should learn with a better quality stethoscope since you can hear much clearer and use it eventually as a RN)

Aloft - $74.99
Litmann Cardiology III - $153.50 (cheapest I've found; most other places sell for $250+)
