temporary PN license

hi i was thinking of applying for a temp RPN license first before taking the exam. would it be worth the try looking for willing employers or should i just focus my time reviewing for the exam?? are employers that desperate to hire on this condition?
does anybody here ever tried applying for a temporary RPN license?

I applied for my temporary license before I wrote the exam. I already had a job waiting so I wanted to get it to start those paychecks coming in! I had the temp license and was working for a couple of weeks before I got the official word that I had pased.

Depending on when you graduate and are elgible to write the exam, of course you need the temporary permit.

I worked on one for the better part of four months. I graduated two weeks after the exam was written and had to wait four months for the next exam date.

You'll consolidate your knowledge by working and be better prepared for the exam.

The temporary license is only good for Hospital Nursing and LTC, etc. But you are not allowed to work in the community with a Temp license. You do not need to have a temp license to write the exam, just if you want to work as a Practical Nurse prior to writing the exam

I know new grads who work in community clinics here in AB on a temp permit. Perhaps it's a provincial thing.

It most likely is. In Ontario their reasoning behind it is because they dont want Unregistered/New Grad Nurses working by themselves without any assistance nearby. I can understand their reasoning but it sucks for the agencies that are crying for nurses. I know my work is begging nurses to come.

I'm lil bit apprehensive with the temp license since i don't know if it would be that easy finding an RPN job at the moment plus all those job postings I see are requiring CURRENT license holder from the College. Do these LTCs have an idea about the temp license? any suggestion how would i tell a prospective employer that i'll only have a temp license?

A temporty license IS a current practice permit.

Nearly every new grad I've worked with (both PN and RN) have worked under a temporary permit. Employers are used to them when hiring new grads. You even provide a copy of it when hired.

When I was a new grad, my employer just said will you be writing CPNRE at the next writing, I answered yes and was hired. You get paid at a lower rate until the Pass certificate is brought in and you get a retro check back until your hiring date.

It's no big deal.

my apprehensions root to the fact that i'm an IEN who just graduated from my program less than a year ago and was just luckily allowed by the CNO to take the CPNRE. I assumed it will be much harder for me get a temp license PN position.
Any IENs in the forum who previously applied for the PN temp license willing to share their experience?
