rpn wage in ontario

by carz

Hi everyone,
Just wondering if a any of you RPN'S out there in Ontario could help me out. I currently live in Alberta and we are fighting for a wage increase. However it is a hard fight as usual anyway, I am trying to make a comparison of wages across Canada. Can you please tell me what a RPN in Ontario makes for a hourly wage? Can yu also tell me which unions they would be attached to as I will need some official documentation of the wages associated with the union. I have tried to down load contracts on the web but they did not include the pay scale. I would appreciate any help I can get.

Hi. I used to be an LPN in Alberta and the pay wasn't great (as you know!) so when I returned to Ontario I was happy to find that RPN's seem to be paid better. Unfortunately, I can't be a lot of help since I'm just getting back into the work force but I have recently been checking the job boards and wages really vary from place to place. I've noticed a couple of LTC centres offering in the low teens but that doesn't seem to be the norm here in southern Ontario. Most I've seen are paying in the $17-$20 range. I noticed a home care company offering from $20-$27/hr. I checked Workopolis.com to find what some hospitals are paying and one in Ottawa is offering $19.93-$20.58 and another in Mississauga is offering $21.248 - $22.773. Both are with CUPE.
The only other union I know of is OPSEU, but I'm sure there are probably other ones. Hopefully someone else can tell you more. Good luck.

Default wages in ontario
The hospital I work in hasn't had a contract since Oct. 2000 and are making 19.49. The union is OPSEU. At CHEO, in Ottawa, I hear they make around 24.00 and are nonunionized.

Hi there I graduated my RPN program in 1998, and have worked within the Niagara Health System. Our base pay is $24.45... with a 3% pay increase in Oct of 2007 (next month). We also get 14% in leu of benifits... and our shift premiums for evenings(hours after 3 pm) is $1/hr, plus on weekends (Friday @3Pm to Monday 7am), it is another $1/hr... so next month, for an evening or night shift on a weekend, it will work out to be approx $30/hr. Now mind you, that is in the hospital setting.... regional homes and especially private nursing homes are a lot less I hear, buuut, less hands on care... more responsibility... but less hands on care. I believe that our union (which sucks) is SEIU. Hope this helps

When you do settle your contract...look for a HUUUUGE retro check.... which the gov't will take a huge portion of..... but still a very nice check nonetheless.... perhaps $30k!

hi there, i can tell you that where i worked, Providence Continuuing Care Centre, in Kingston, Ont. on sydenham st.
we got top pay of 22.$ hr.
at St. mary's of the Lake, which is also, under the same umbrella, and is rehab, they got 25$/hr.
at the Psychiatric Hospital, again under the same umbrella, and again in same city, they got 27$ /hr.
hope this helps, and they all have different unions. Cupe is one of them! at the psychiatric hospital.
