RPN / RN, Degree / Diploma HELP!

by so1982

Im moving over to Canada soon, i am currently a newly registered nurse here in the UK having completed my 3 year diploma.
I was hoping that the process of finding a nursing job in Canada would be a simple one, however as i am moving to Ontario, it seems not!

I am a little worried by the number of people commenting that CNO do not accept a diploma, looking at the requirements on their website my diploma has covered all of them.

What is the process? Apply to the CNO and then they give a or then the CRNE exam?

Would i then be a RN or RPN.

Sorry if this seems a little flustered!

The province of Ontario is the only province to use the term "RPN" for a LPN (or what used to be known in the UK as a SEN).

In Western Canada "RPN" is the designation for a Reg. Psychiatric Nurse.

CNO reviews each application individually (and all nursing Colleges across the country) are backlogged with overseas applications. Also the Ontario posters are reporting difficulties in finding full time work (our economy is/has suffered but not as badly as the US)

Hi so1982
I think since you completed a diploma nursing program, this means you did not complete a baccalaureate degree for registered nurses and you did not complete a diploma for registered practical nurses. I believe in this case, you request your school of nursing to send a course description directly to CNO. They will review the course description and inform you about the next steps.
