RPN bridge in program

by Tiara16

Hey, I'm in the 4 year RPN program and after the four years I want to have a RN degree as well and was wondering if anyone knows any universities/colleges in bc that have a bridge in program and how many years it will take. Thanks.

Are you in a part time RPN program? RPN is only 2 years unless you are going part time like I did. If you take a bridge program afterwards it is another 3 years full time.

Wow 4 years for RPN, I guess you had a few pre-req courses to do. I can understand your wanting to go for the RN. Since you are currently enrolled in school, you could ask the student counsellor what steps you need to take to apply to a rpn-rn program and where the programs are offered.
I think there are programs offered at mohawk college, uoit, george brown and seneca but I am not sure, so either ask the counsellor for the list or check individual school's websites for the information. You could also search allnurses using the search tool in the upper right hand corner, this topic has probably been discussed in past threads.
good luck with your studies, tiara16.

Apples and oranges people! The OP is asking about BC, so that means her RPN isn't the same as Ontario's RPN. She's talking about a Registered Psychiatric Nurse program, which would be a university-based one, not a Registered Practical Nurse program. Remember, the rest of Canada uses the title Licensed Practical Nurse.

I've worked with RPNs here in Alberta that were able to work as RNs. A couple had to do a few extra courses (for some reason maternity care springs to mind) but it wasn't a lot of extra work that was required.

You need to check with the provincial college for RNs out there.

They'll also have to do peds. But their program includes med-surg so they've got that part of the package. I think they also have to write the CRNE because of the different focus of their primary education and registration exams.
