They make between $14 and $18 an hour, I believe. About what they're paying for burger slingers at McDonalds, unfortunately.

Here's a few links:

I've never heard the term residential care aide used. It's alway Nursing Assistant or Personal Care Aide.

Are you in Ontario by any chance?

janfrn: what you mean is they are paid the same wage if you work to burger slingers??? hmmm...

Fiona59: Actually, I am not really familiar with the right term, all I know is these is what they call for those working in nursing homes or institution, somewhat like a caregiver..... well unfortunately I'm from the philippines..

What I meant was that many of the fast food restaurants around here were having such trouble hiring and retaining staff because of high wages for unskilled work in the oil fields that they were paying $12-16 an hour for burger flippers and coffee pourers. And hiring 12 year olds to do it! At the same time the wages for people who provide direct care to the most vulnerable of us were being paid the same. I'm still seeing signs outside McDonalds and Tim Hortons that say they're hiring and have great benefits.

ouch! hmmm... but it just left me with no choice.. see I'm a RN here in the Phils n actually pass my NCLEX n IELTS but the problem is that I don't have any experience working in an hospital because I was more busy taking all the exams and ended up with no work because of increasing number of graduates each year n our government can't cope with that. and with the retrogression in states and in Canada to become a nurse I know that I need also to have experience and take their exams too.. see that's why I don't have a choice...

I am sorry but you do have a choice, If you are determined to work as a nurse then there are ways that it can be done. Working as a carer will not give you the experience in the future to work as a nurse. If you are still looking in the future of continuing the US role your employer will also be expecting current nursing experience. May be a lot of hard work on your part but you may find a employer willing to look at no working experience although will be hard.

Thanks... there are few I know that will like to hire me as a nurse in states even without experience but then because of retrogression it will be so much later that I can practice as a nurse..And I cant wait for that since I don't have any work yet that can help me to be financially stable.... It's really hard for me to take this risk it just gave me no choice....

Maybe now its just a start, then I'll proceed to become a nurse when everything is ok.. I just hope for the best..
