Registering for CRNE

I assume that you finished your education in Ontario. When you registered with the RNAO there should have been paper work regarding an exam application and locations - and you would remember this as a fee is involved ! $492.43 for the RN examination fee and $36.75 for a membership application fee (last one may be different in Ontario).

In BC they send an exam confirmation notice and information regarding the exam plus verifying the location that you choose to write it. Plus other information - whats allowed, length of exam, resources, ID, etc.

I would phone the RNAO and inquire about your application etc. The next RN exam date is June 4/2008 across the country. Maybe they don't have your correct contact address?

You probably filled out a form in the application for a temporary licence to practice as a graduate nurse too.

Hi, I schooled in U.S. too and would be moving to Canada soon to work. As a foreign trained nurse, the CNO would have to assess your U.S. Nursing degree and if your program curriculum met all their requirements then they would certify you eligible to write the exam. In the approval package they would include the registration form for the CRNE with available dates for the next exams. Once you've been made eligible to write the exam, while waiting to write the exam you could apply to work with an interim license - if you have an employer.

So I don't know if you've done this yet, but if not I think this is the first step. You can find all the necessary info on their website.

As a foreign-trained RN, you will have to get approval first to be able to sit for the exam. Would not do a thing with registering for it until you have approval from the actual province to sit for it.

I got all the registration details/forms/dates from CARNA for the CRNE when they confirmed my eligibility. They also sent my temporary license application at the same time.

I would have thought that would be common practice for most Provinces?

Hi, how long does it normally take for them to send the confirmation letter re my file number for registration? I personally gave it to them in CRNBC (IELTS copy, complete application, Payment form, PR card copy..) They said its all good and i should just wait in mail...So im curious how long does it normally take, like range of period? Thanks for the replies, in advance.

After I posted all the necessary paperwork to CRNBC, it took me approximately 6 weeks to receive a BC file number. (I live in Australia).

It then took another 8 weeks after I received my BC file number to receive my 'eligibility to sit the CRNE' letter in the mail. The letter in the package stated that I was eligible to sit the CRNE, and came complete with paperwork to apply for the exam, to pay by credit card, apply for temporary RN registration, to submit criminal record and to submit statutory declaration.

So therefore it took approximately 3.5 months total from submitting all paperwork to receiving the elibility package. Very quick, compared with registering as an RN in the UK years ago. The same process took double that time.

Hi Misswongy, thanks for the reply I live in BC. So it might be shorter you think? Also, when did you apply? last year or this year? coz most of those who applied this year had to have the SEC assesment thing?

Living there I don't think will make it any quicker as a lot will depend on your transcripts and how quick they receive everything
