Provincial Licensure

by saskrn

When I graduated from nursing school in 1996, I did not register in my province because I was going directly to the USA, plus I just couldn't afford it. Now I am trying to move back home and get a license, and the Board there is giving me a really hard time. I am jumping through all kinds of hoops, which apparently are not good enough. These people also told me that if they didn't give me a license, no other province would either.

Is this true? Has anyone ever experienced this or heard of this? I'm not sure if I should just give up.

Thanks for any input!

I would keep trying. I have kept my Canadian license even though i went to the US. Do you have a diploma or degree? I know if you have a diploma and you let your canadian license expire, you may even have to go back to school or something. They are getting ridiculous. All of Canada have stopped the diploma nurse program. This whole thing about preferring degree over diploma. It sucks to deal with the college of nurses, and i'm sure they'll give you the round about. Ask one of the representatives what you need to do to obtain your canadian license.
