Re: NP programs in the US
I'd be curious to see the answer to this too. It seems like it shouldn't be too hard to come back. Here's the information from BC:
- To register as an NP, must meet this: · Established eligibility for RN registration with CRNBC. For more information about RN registration click here. · Graduated from a B.C. recognized nurse practitioner program or graduated from a nurse practitioner program equivalent to a Master’s level nursing education program that prepares graduates with the competencies to practise as described in the Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR) Framework for Assessing Nurse Practitioners. · Successfully completed the written examination and objective structured clinical examination (OSCE). - Met the minimum practice hour requirement. The minimum hour requirement can be met through having completed one of the following in the past three years:
- Graduated from a B.C. recognized nurse practitioner education program or equivalent;
- Engaged in the practice of nursing as a nurse practitioner for at least a minimum of 900 hours in the stream in which the applicant is seeking registration, and at the level of practice as described in the PLAR Framework; or
- Completed a clinical directed study through a B.C.-recognized nurse practitioner program.
I got the impression that if you went to the States and passed the ANCC it would just be a matter of passing the OSCE and going through the paperwork to get the certification transferred to Canada.
