need information on how to work in US

I'm sure that this isn't the first post looking for information about how to go about writing the nclex etc. - but I'm new to this - so, thought that I'd just post my question...........I'm a Canadian nurse - interested in moving to the States and want to know the best way to go about it........should I look for a job first....get licenced first.......how long is the process.........what is the best way to go about it. I'm looking to work in North Carolina. Any information would be helpful - thanks

Please go to the International Forum and there are threads posted at the top of the page. You will need to apply to a state for licensure, once accepted by them, you will then be able to write the NCLEX-RN exam. If you are in Quebec you will more than likely be required to write the English exams, if not there, then they are waived for you. You will also be required to have a Visa Screen Certificate in hand before you can cross the border to work.

After you check out the other site, let us know if you have any more questions and welcome to Allnurses.com.

You need to write the NCLEX and get licensed first as well as get your visascreen. It is usually fastest for Canadians to get their initial license through Minnesota.

My first license was through MS, and it was quick. Idaho is another excellent BON to work with, IMHO.
