Hey welcome.....

Congrats on the job offer have you applied for your registration through the NMC equivelent in Vancouver?

Never visited Vancouver, went over to BC, on a snow shoeing excursion which was brilliant....I think as long as you can stand the freezing temperatures and heavy snow fall in the winter, it will be one big adventure!

P.S we have been told it's a bit like new york as it is on the coast.

Vancouver doesn't typically get a lot of snow in the winter; although they do have the occasional storm the snow melts away in a couple of days. Nor is it generally "frigid" in the winter. Right now, at 0730 hours it's -5C (23F) with a forecast high of +1C (33F) and 1-3 cm of snow. Compared to my front yard, (where it's 0830 hours) -22C (-8F) and there's at least a foot of snow on my garden, that's not so bad.

What does your wife do, jojo202? That more than anything will determine how easily she'll find work.

So, bring them by my place and they can shovel out the driveway (blowing snow last night)

Don't know where in the UK you are coming from but Vancouver is a large city. With all the problems that other large cities have. For some reason many are surprized by the drug problem and the for lack of a better work squalor to witnessed at Main and Hastings. It is a beautiful city (I grew up there) but a very expensive one to live in.

It can be very grey and miserable from October until the end of March. I used to swear that people would start to rust from the rain.

I lived on a military site at the northern end of Vancouver Island for a while and I can quite believe that. The standing joke was that they measured the sunshine in inches, and Trooper's "We're Here for a Good Time (Not a Long Time) was the theme song.

If you can see the north shore mountains, it's just stopped raining,
If they are obscured with clouds, it's going to rain.

Was another saying back in my day.

Yup, it's hard to believe but north of Nanaimo is really rainer than Vancouver.

Thank you all very much for your response. i think i got an idea already, but i think it is still different experiencing it yourself. i'm glad to read all your insights about vancouver so hopefully we wont be too surprised or shocked when we arrive there. Thanks again. you'll hear again from me once i'm in vancouver.
