There are a lot of opportunities in Canada for nurses interested in caring for the developmentally disabled. A few of the facilities that employ nurses to care fo these special people are Sunny Hill Health Centre in Vancouver, BC; Briercrest in Campbell River, BC; Bloorview-MacMillan Centre in Toronto, Ontario; Regional Mental Health Sevices, London, Ontario; and l'Arche, which has residential facilities in most provinces. l'Arche takes a community approach and is a bit different; employees live with the clients in the various homes across the country almost like a family. A Google search using any of these terms will bring up a selection of hits for your viewing pleasure.

Thank you for the information I will look into these places. I wondered if there were facilities such as this in British Columbia? Once again appreciate your reply.

Sunny Hill and Briercrest are both in BC... British Columbia. Sunny Hill is in Vancouver and Briercrest is in Campbell River, a medium sized community on Vancouver Island.

SunnyHill is in the middle of a residential area and close to public transport. Used to walk past it all the time on my way to high school.

Hi Janfrn thanks for the reply. I am so confused trying to find info about Developmental Disability nursing posts avaliable in Ontario and I have come up with very little. Some people say developmental disabilities nursing does not exist in Canada!? while others say it does!? confusing to say the least :-S
Do you have any further suggestions?
Thanks
