I need to interview a Registered Practical Nurse

by melrain

Do you work part time, full time, casual and which type do you/would you prefer and why?

Discuss some rewards of working as an Registered practical nurse what makes you feel good about your contribution?

Identify some of the drawbacks of working as an RPN? Can you offer some ideas to make changes to these drawbacks.

What would you like to see changed in your work areas, EX: role changes, responsibilities, communication lines, staggard hrs, longer lunches etc...

How will graduations of the 2 year diploma program affect the rpns who have the certificate and do you think it will change the work environment?

What futures do you envision for the role of the RPN?

What should others know about RPN's that most people dont know before entering the profession?

Thumbs down R.P.N
Hello there,
Well since I do not voice it often I will give you a short reply. I have been a R.PN for the past eleven years and have worked fulltime, part-time and casual. I have worked acute care , longterm care and most things in between. I have taken every up grade possible as a R.p.n ie, added skills palliative care , ect. I have always given very good care to the patients in my charge.
However if I had it to do all over again, I would never become a R.P.N. Why you ask...... under valued ! I do not believe we are regarded as nurses, by both nursing professionals or the general public. Our wage scale bites, and we are always threatened with lay off, or discontinueing the need for R.P.N's in hospital and replacing us with nursing aides. I wish some one had given me a speech like this eleven years ago.
I know this sounds very negative ,and I would love for it to be the contrary, however I dont see any changes in the near future.
It would seem to me, that they the college has created us and now no one wants to utilize us, a little more respect for the profession would be nice.along with a increase in pay!.
