Do not think that it is the stratgies that got you, but the fact that you memorized questions and answers. If you take a minute to think about it, they are not going to be giving you the questions in advance that are on an exam like that. So, if they look familiar, it means that keys words were changed or altered to require a different answer.

I would save your money and focus on understanding the rationales behind each and every answer.

I don't try to memorize questions - answers. It's happen automatically (I have good memory). I am not familiar with multiple questions exams. I use questions to UNDERSTAND, what answer should be. Usually I do NEW questions with 80 - 90% of success (the second time I pass the same questions even after few months - 95-100%).
When I see the same (or very similar) question on the exam, I see the answer...
So the good resource to deal with multiple choice questions is the MUST for me.
P.S. I have a lot of years of experience, including Canadian, I perform very well at work (MUCH better that some people who pass the exam).

I would pay more attention to the rationales and why a particular answer was selected. The questions should be secondary. This will get you thru the exam.

please dont take offense what am about to say.
If you indeed have a "good memory" as youve said - then you would have recognize the difference in the Prep guide questions compared to that of the actual exam.

There are LOTS of us who took the same exam and used the same prep guide - but i / we never encountered the same question in the actual exam. And think about it - why would the CNA write exactly the same questions and put the same in the CRNE?

And i definitely agree that the exam will not define on how you work/perform as a nurse.

My best advice is to move on from that failed exam and change your strategy or enroll yourself in a group study. Stop dwelling on that one failure. Prepare for your next exam very early on and we are hoping/wishing for ur success.

Much luck to you.

Hello el_2008

memorizing the answers in any prep guide isn't going to help at all. What is important in passing exams like this is to understand test taking strategies. That is an exam with questions where all the answer options seem correct. One study guide I found very helpful when I took my exam was Kaplan NCLEX-RN Exam with CD-ROM: Strategies for the Registered Nursing Licensing Exam by Barbara Irwin (Author), Judith A. Burckhardt. (they have various editions, it costs about $35 but you can get it cheaper or used one from Amazon .It has about 360 questions in total. But the great thing about this book is that it gives you a good guide on test taking strategies. In this book they also have a section for international trained nurses. In addition to content review material like Saunders NCLEX -RN Review, the CRNE Prep Guide, you need this book to guide you in studying to pass. Believe me you might know all the nursing topic contents, but you don't understand the techniques needed to answer the questions correctly, it sure would be a big challenge to make it.
If you are in Ontario you can also contact the Care4nurses, they have some review classes for foreign trained nurses.
Good luck

If you are a foreign trained nurse you can check out Care4nurses.org . They are helpful. Kaplan also has a review class, you can check them out, but they are expensive though.

Contact numbers do not need to be posted here, they can be found by looking them up on the internet.

Thank you, faithhopeRN

I made a review of CRNE with the Mosby's review of CRNE wich I found very good.

In your recommendation: Kaplan NCLEX-RN Exam with CD-ROM: Strategies for the Registered Nursing Licensing Exam, I suspect the most interesting part will be "Strategies". Does this part of book is big enough (how many pages) and can it be applied to CRNE exam. Should I buy this book if I am only interested in this part?

In fact I am even planning to take a private CRNE tutor to explain me in dept these strategies... I didn't choose the right one yet.

This book also has practice questions(in the book and on the CD) with good explanations of the answer options that will help you understand how to apply the strategies. The book is about 300 and something pages Depending on your speed, you can cover the whole book in about 3-5days. THIS IS NOT ALL THE TIME YOU NEED TO STUDY FOR YOUR EXAM!!!. Look it up on Amazon for more insight and people's review on it. Study this book first it would help you understand better any other review material you choose to use.
