Distance Education RPN to BSCN

Hello!

I am just finishing my second year in the RPN program and would like to bridge to BSCN. Has anybody found a school that offers this program through distance education? I can't move my family to another town so I can go to school. I am open to any school in the Country as long as it is offered online!

Thanks!

Athabasca U. based in Alberta. Be aware that you must hold an AB practice permit in addition to your home province's, all clinicals are in Alberta, and I believe they have a required number of paid hours of experience (requires references) to be admitted to the course.

Thanks for your reply!

Unfortunately that doesn't help because I can't move out to Alberta to complete my clinicals. I'm looking for a program that will allow me to complete the course work online and do my clinicals here. I also won't have an Alberta license when I'm done my schooling since I was trained in Ontario, but thanks anyway!

You can hold practice permits in multiple provinces.

As far as I know, Athabasca is the only online option.

Do you know if they offer it part-time? I wonder if it's worth doing this and sacrificing moving there for clinicals... hmmm... Because I was thinking I could take all the non-clinical courses separately from the clinical ones.. this sounds very interesting as I better learn on my own and barely go to school anyhow..hmm

For Athabasca, you dont need to move there for your clinicals. I believe there are 4 clinicals and you do it at your own pace. What I would suggest is that when you are working, speak to your human resources department to assist you in coordinating your clinical experience. Another option would be to scale back to part time casual after you have applied to the program so that you are able to go to Alberta for a few weeks for the clinical placements.

You can take up to 7 years to complete your program through Athabasca. Clinicals are ONLY offered in Alberta, and you do indeed have to hold a valid Alberta registration - which includes a continuing competency requirement annually for renewal. Registration with CLPNA is currently $250 a year. You might want to factor that into your deliberations. http://www.athabascau.ca/cnhs/ug_lpn_bn.php
