I've been there. It happens to be where my grandpa met and fell in love with my grandma. It's a nice smaller town, friendly people, weather is what you'd expect. My friend used to work at their hospital and really liked it.

i've only ever been there once. i remember it being dusty. that's it.
why would you go all the way to vancouver to have a baby? it's a 12-13 hour drive? is it a complicated pregnancy? if so, prince george or grand prairie aren't that far away.

I would expect it would be quite safe to have a baby in Dawson Creek since northern communities tend to have alot of childbirths; hospitals up there are quite adept at the process.

If there are complications they would helicopter you out at the drop of a hat.

Good luck !

im scared, i lost my first baby on my 8 month of pregnancy, i just dont want the same thing to happen again. and i have a sister in law in vancouver. its not really the operation im scared of.

would i be eligible for a maternity benefit?.. we are just temporary resident. my husband and i will both be working as a nurse at dawson creek hospital. provincial nominee will take a year, and the baby will be due between december and january.

onelonenurse and zolly - thanks for ur effort, i truly appreciate it!

I don't know about the maternity benefits. As for where to deliver, I would discuss that with your doctor. I am very sorry about the loss of your first child. If the cause of that makes you high risk, then you may want to deliver at a larger hospital. It would really depend on why your first baby died. Vancouver obviously has the best resources in the province for high risk deliveries (I used to work there) but smaller hospitals are still completely competent at doing regular births including c-sections.
