CRNE tips

I am a 4th year student who will be writing my CRNE next June (2009). I'm hoping that new RNs who have just written their CRNE exam will post tips here for those planning to write in the future. How did you study, what study guide did you use, things that surprised you about the exam (amount of math, required knowledge of specific drugs/pathophysiology, and the number of MC/SA questions...etc) I know the exam is always different, but I don't know a lot of specifics about the exam and I'm just hoping to develop an overall idea of what the exam consists of.

I think there is a lot of fear mongering ("my friend's, friend's cousin's sister failed 3 times by 1% and hung herself by her toenails). Everyone knows the exam is difficult so lets try to stick to specifics ("I used the CRNE prep guide & the _______ study guide to prepare" and "I studied every day for 8 hours for 6 weeks reviewing every note I'd ever taken in school"- hehe...you get the picutre)

Please tell us (if you feel comfortable) if you passed the exam and in which province you wrote. If you didn't pass the exam, what do you think you could have done better? Was it test anxiety or something specific you missed in your exam prep?

Thanks

Passed in AB. Finished classes late August and wrote in October. I used the CNA study guide and reviewed my class notes.

Lots of prioritizing questions! It's pretty much all "choose the BEST answer"/"what do you do FIRST" type questions, so you pretty much have to have your critical thinking down. If you know the Usual Suspects inside and out (COPD, DM, HF &c.), it's just a matter of taking your time and really reading the questions! Good luck!

Thanks so much for the response. That's exactly the kind of information I was hoping for! It's nice to get a picture of what the exam is like. I think it will help in the long run with the amount of stress I feel!!

Ok...I feel much better. The CNA site had some info of how the exam is laid out. Also, Canadian educated nurses have a 95% pass rate. Here is the site if anyone wants it.
