Hi again everyone, I'm getting ready for CRNE in October and still working as Unregulated Care Provider. I didn't apply for a temporary license with CNO because I've been out of "practice" for more than a year, I wonder if I should start applying to real nursing positions now or wait for the exam results . My experience in Canada, even if not accepted by the College, could be helpful to apply for jobs. It also helps a lot to have a clear idea of the "Canadian way" which is good when answering CRNE questions.
I live in Ottawa, and moving is not an option since I'm not the primary income earner.
I'm not picky about jobs; I'm actually thankful that they're allowing me to be a nurse here Any suggestions??

lol! is Regina NOT far from Saskatoon? sorry... I've only been here in canada for 8 weeks. The only places I've been to are the grocery stores and the mall here in Saskatoon. That's why I dont feel very comfortable going to another city when I still barely know the city im in right now. All this time I thought Regina is very far from here. Thanks for enlightening me. Makes me think of really going for the workshop now that I know its not that far.

I am confused, what do you hope employers will do with your application if you apply for real nursing jobs now?

Hi Dishes, thanks for the reply, I'm sorry for being confusing
Since there are job postings stating: "registration or eligibility for registration", I wonder if I should start applying now. I'm eligible to take CRNE and a permanent resident of Canada.
I liked my job, but some changes have been taking place in the last few months that make it more of a circus tight rope. Besides, my employer won't give me a raise if I get a license since he can get away with hiring qualified but unlicensed staff for a less than $14 an hour.

Thanks for clarifying petgroomer,
I suggest calling the employers who advertise "registration or eligibility for registration" and explain that you are eligble for registration and will be writing the CRNE in oct/09. Ask if you submit your resume now, what will they do with it? Do they keep it on file? or are they interviewing nurses who are elgible for registration? If they are interviewing nurses who are eligible for registration, submit your resume now.
good luck

Hi Sonamona, I'm going to write CRNE for the first time; I think that you should also have a look at the CNA guide. If you read some CRNE threads here, you'll see that most successful candidates used it. There're several encouraging posts of now-RNs who studied on their own and were successful, most of them praise the CRNE Guide
Mosby is not bad (I have it too), but I wouldn't go for the exam without going through the CNA guide. Just my 2 cents.
***Having the opportunity to write the exam is a blessing, the cost of the guide is nothing compared to that of going back to nursing school.***

I agree with you petgroomer. They initially told me to go back to nursing school so I completed the nursing equivalency table and submitted the certificates of the courses I've attended in UK. Luckily, they'd let me write the exam. By the way, I posted the application for the CRNE about 3wks ago and still haven't heard anything from the CNO. Am I gonna get a confirmation letter saying I can write it in October?

How long have u been here petgroomer? I have applied for jobs as PSW in some nursing homes but all I got was "we'll keep your resume in our file as we don't have an opening". I emailed one hospital close to where I live and asked if they hire nurses under Temporary Class Registration. I was told to submit my resume and when I did I just got this reply (which I believe was an automated one), " We are pleased to acknowledge receipt of your application for the position of Registered Nurse. In the event you are not short listed, we will retain your application on file..... blah blah blah.."

I guess I should just have to wait til I'm done with the CRNE. My other worry is what if I do get a temporary license but fail the exam. I believe they will revoke the license if you fail the exam.

Sheng13, if they received your CRNE application before the deadline for the October exam, you will get notification of where and when you're writing. But you probably won't receive it promptly because of the number of applications they have to process (Ontario being the most populous province in Canada) and the slack idleness of Canada Post. I rarely use the mail for anything any more because I have to send it a LONG time before it needs to be where it's going if I want it there by a specific date. Used to be that you could mail something in Vancouver and have it in Halifax by the end of the week. Now it might take two weeks or longer. My advice is to be patient. There are still about seven weeks before the exam.
