Can my friend immigrant to USA ?

by cgzca

I have a Canadian friend.
He has a certificate "personal support worker/home worker" of Canada(half year), and his main work is to take care elder in rest home/retire home/personal home. Ang he has the job for 2 years. I heard such workers can immigrant to
US directly. I am not sure if it is true or not. Anyone knows about it ? If he can, please give me some suggestion how to ? thx a lot.

Care aides/home support workers are not exempt under NAFTA like RNs are, so he would have to immigrate like anyone else. That's difficult and time consuming.

It will take him about three years, and that is if he is accepted. Rules in Canada are quite different from the US for this type of worker.

Thank you for your answer
It is so bad for him.
But I am a little curious, what sorts of job can exempt NAFTA like RNs , and immigrant
to US easily ? My nephew is car repairment technician, is it easy for him ?

Registered Nurses only under NAFTA, and they have to be a citizen of Canada or Mexico, meaning that they have a Canadian or Mexican passport. Not that they have residency in Canada.

The NAFTA Treaty only allows the nurse to work in the US, if they wish to immigrate, then they still have to go thru the proper channels for the green card. There is no fast way to doing this, and doing it legally.

Even LPNs are not covered under this agreement.
