BC BSN programs

I am working on prerequisites for nursing school near home - UCFV - and I'm just wondering about what kind of reputation different schools have for nursing programs?

Just for the heck of it, I looked at BCIT and they have a lot more entrance requirements and admit by competition. I also looked Kwantlen which is about the same prereqs as UCFV, then Douglas which looks like it has way easier requirements (meaning I already have the prereqs!).

All these other schools are an hour away and UCFV is 20 minutes and I hear UCFV is a good school, but I wonder if I should apply at Douglas too and maybe start sooner? It's a new program and I wonder what it's reputation is.
They have a brand new health schiences building there too.

Any feedback is appreciated!
TIA, C

I'd suggest just going to schools in your area, just for convienience. Say for example... you go to BCIT, you'd probably have to wake up at 630am just to get to class on time a 8am... then theres the drive home.. it'd not only take a lot of your sleep away but also $ spend on gas..

You are right. I probably posted this question too soon, because when I thought more about it the rush hour traffic from Abby to wherever would be CRAZY and stressful - who needs more stress!

I'm just so anxious to get started! LOL

I'm waiting to start my last 2 prereqs because of $$ issues and I'm going a bit squirrely

Douglas isn't a new program is it? They were offering it when I went to nursing school years and years ago and it was based on the UVIC program.

The BSN program and Health Schiences building are new from what I've read on their web site. Perhaps it was the diploma program they offered before and they've recently updated?

Currently all BC programs have their own Degree programs now.. no more UVic joint programs with any community colleges... Langara is about to grad their last batch of UVic BSN's next year. So from now onwards, Langara only offers the Langara BSN and Douglas only offers the Douglas BSN. someone correct me if I'm wrong

I went to UCFV. I chose this school for many reasons. #1) most clinical hours.
2) RNs love UCFV grads on the floor #3) the drive AGAINST traffic and finally #4) I got in fairly quickly. I was on llists at Douglas nad BCIT. I chose UCFV and will never regret it. If I can help in any way, lemme know.

Thanks, that is so good to hear! I am hoping to get into UCFV for Sept/07 and since I live in Abby I won't apply anywhere else.

Does the program have set class hours? I looked in the timetable online but it doesn't tell what the hours are

Here's one more question: do students practice injections on each other at UCFV? I've heard that they do at some schools, just want to be mentally prepared! LOL

I appreciate your input!

Hey-ya UCFV has set hours. 0830-1530 M-F. That being said, it can vary throughout the years. Its a great program. NO they do not get you to practice on eachother. It is on a silicone type pillow thing. Your first shot is on your patient!

Oh i hope you get in as it is a great program but very time consuming and challenging. Second year is the hardest. But enough about that!

Let me know what happens and if you have any more questions, Lemme know!
