athabasca university vs. university of victoria

by rosie19

Hello all,
I am new here. I am from Quebec getting my degree from athabasca university but one of my friends told me that university of athabasca's diploma won't be accredited in quebec especially for teaching positions. Her friend couldn't get a teaching job because she got her BN at athabasca university. She recommended university of victoria. Does anybdy have comments on this?do you know anybody with similiar problems?I am confused about accreditation.Thank you in advance....

I would strongly suggest that you contact Ordre des infirmières et infirmiers du Québec for more advice on this. I would also suggest you contact the nursing schools the universities to see what type of education and experience they are seeking to teach.

You are already licensed in Quebec as a nurse and to teach you generally need a phd in nursing/ masters in nursing phd in education.

Good luck and follow up!

Hello Blakpepa,
I asked OIIQ and they said they accept the diploma from Athabasca and all other online univeristies, however thay added that it'd be the employer's decision to recognize the diploma or not.I decided to transfer from Athabasca to University of Victoria because university of victoria has clinics and I thought the clinics part of the curriculum would give me more opportunity to know how the community nursing works. To teach,I have to see about it if I can go to higher education. My friend who finished her bachelor became nurse educator.maybe I can go to that route. I will see. Thanks for your response. Good luck...
