Anywhere other than the hospital!!!

I currently work at my local hospital as a unit clerk, but will be going to school for nursing this September. I fully understand the duties of nurses in a hospital setting, and am not sure if this is the place where I would like to work for the next 40 years. The politics, back stabbing, and ridiculous amount of BS that goes on is unreal! I know I am meant to be a nurse and to care for others, but the thought of having to work in such an environment for the rest of my working life is scary!!! I know there is the option of Community Care, but I don't think I would feel very safe going into others homes by myself. I am interested in Public Health, working at Baby Clinics or doing immunizations in schools etc. I am wondering if anyone knows of any opportunities in BC where I could work with the public in schools, teaching children etc. Would the best route be to look at Public Health nursing? I would also be interested in working for a place like Planned Parenthood, does anyone know about opportunities working in such places? what about the pay? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!
PS
I understand that everyone is usually required to do their time in an acute setting, but I'm looking towards the future, after experience in the hospital!

The dream job just doesn't exist.

Personalities clash in every job unless you work all by yourself.

I've worked in Doctors office and there is tension there. I know someone who works in the School Programme doing immunizations and she said its worse there than in the hospital because you see the same people M-Fr and at least in the hospital you can switch your rotation.

HomeCare is different from what you think. You have cellphones and your managers know your schedule and location at all times. I've heard of home care set ups where you are given safety/self protection training.

Have you thought about the Morgantaler Clinics or the WellWomans clinics. I just know that you have the antis who will picket and you can be followed home, etc.

The weird can get you every job.

Thanks for the help Fiona59. I've never heard of those clinics, I will have to do some research to learn more. I'm also very interested in Ob/Gyn, so I may look into working in a clinic or office. Who knows, maybe I will love working in the hospital...I'll just have to wait and see! Does anyone know of any great hospitals to work for in BC? Is so, why is it a great place to work at?
Thanks in advance!

If you really think you are meant to be a nurse and love helping others maybe you would enjoy working in at a LTCC. It's different from the hospital but I can't garentee that you won't be dealing with BS. That's everywhere..almost. When you'll be doing you clinicals just try and see what you enjoy the most. You should have some in an active setting and LT. Think of the clinical as an orientation.
