The exam was tricky... it was hard to know whether you answered right or wrong, because all of the options given could be correct depending on the specific situations. Just remember, safety first. Also, remember ABCs (airway, circulation, breathing). Remember the first step is to assess the patient! Read all of the questions carefully.... they say it is 60% psych and 40% physiology but I would say it is closer to 50/50. Although it isn't focused on much in school, review adolescent disorders such as conduct disorder, as well as abuse.

For preparation, I found this book's CD questions to be very very helpful: http://www.amazon.ca/Prentice-Hall-R...7224615&sr=8-1

I basically used the discs from all of my textbooks, along with reviewing key chapters. My school had practice exams but I really didn't find them too helpful.

You need to get 60% to pass.... I got 81%. Average (from what I have been told) is around 64%. It is not meant to be an easy test. Just breathe and use your critical thinking skills! You seem very anxious regarding this test.... are you currently in nursing school?

Most of the answers to your questions are available on the CRPNBC website...
I wrote it at the end of October 2009, in Coquitlam BC but they set up exams all around the province.
I just finished nursing school so I used my school textbooks, as well as practice tests online:
http://www.flashcardexchange.com/tag/psychiatric

http://www.scribd.com/doc/6389833/89...ursing-Exam-II

http://nursingcrib.com/psychiatric-n...e-test-part-3/

http://nursingcrib.com/psychiatric-n...e-test-part-1/

http://www.blogcatalog.com/blogs/ncl...practice+exam/

http://www.aaroncyuntalan.com/aaronc...%20_local_.pdf

http://www.nclexpinoy.com/2009/09/ps...xamtest-6.html

http://www.nclexpinoy.com/2009/05/nc...ychiatric.html

It seems that you are quite anxious regarding this exam..... how long have you been a nurse for? The exam tests your critical thinking skills and ability to prioritize according to safety. Just use your knowledge, read each question slowly and carefully, and think about why you are choosing the answer you chose. Have a rationale for your answer. There are not too many questions on the Mental Health act, maybe one or two. The best thing I think for you is to just write the test, if you don't pass the first time at least you will have an idea of what it is like for the second time around. Although no one from my class of almost 30 failed.
