  1. Can I ask when you will be finishing your course? I'm in the same boat as you. My last test is the 22nd. Really hoping that it will work out. My tutor has been positive but someone else from Athabasca that I talked to wasn't so positive but that was just the call centre.
I write my final on the 30th, will be calling my tutor tonight. Will also have my final assignment in this weekend.

I too got a grim prognosis from the call center, but my experience has been that things can be done in a hurry if you ask nicely.

    Will find out soon enough!

I did the Athabasca course almost 2 years ago now and I'm pretty sure you could have your exams/transcripts sent express post. Another thing I found works is if they fax the transcript and mark that the original is in the mail. Some schools will accept that.

    Good Luck to you!

Also. I just paid my deposit, it was $250. I'm also not a previous UBC student. Can't wait to meet everyone!
  3. Hi!

To those awaiting Athabasca transcripts... I recommend that you try to get your assignments in ASAP. For me to be able to send a transcript after finishing all of my coursework, it took about a week's turnaround time. I finished my 2 remaining assignments by May 9th (I'd already finished all of my exams). It took my Tutor 3 days or so to mark both of my assignments (understandably, and I was very impressed with how quickly he marked it). On top of that, after he submitted my marks, it took an additional 3-4 days for Athabasca to finalize my mark into transcript form. This meant that for the last 4 days or so, anytime I previewed my transcript, it still did not have a mark for me (even if all my coursework was graded). So, I finished my coursework by May 9th, and was unable to order an official transcript until May 17th. When I asked my tutor how I could expedite getting my mark finalized, he told me that it was completely out of his hands. Once he submits the mark, it's an administration thing.

I don't mean to cause anyone to panic, I'm just suggesting that if you were hanging on to your assignments in order to "perfect" it, don't worry too much and submit it (if you feel good that you at least passed).

The call centre people are very, uhm, not-very-nice. The lady I spoke with barked at me and told me that it usually takes up to 4-6 weeks for transcripts to be finalized because at this time of year, it's the "Busy" season. It only about a week for me, so I have no idea where she got that from.

She recommended that I send my transcript by courrier to expedite the process - and that is what I did.

    Good luck everyone.
  4. Thank you to the above three posters for the information. That is helpful and makes me feel a bit better. @Hopingfor2012 that sounds exactly like my experience with the call centre, almost word for word! My tutor suggested contacting the division secretary to help speed the process once my last exam is written next week.

Also, I received my official letter of acceptance in the mail yesterday and the booklet they included states that for subsequent/second sessions at UBC, it is a $100 deposit but that was in smaller print after saying the deposit was $250. So, I think you guys were correct in figuring out the difference.
  5. Hello All. Have any waitlisters heard anything yet?

whats your number on the waitlist?
  8. Thanks to the posters who shared their experiences with AU. It was disheartening to deal with the call center, but I feel confident that things will work out after speaking with the tutor. Did not know the info about the division secretary, will keep that in mind. Have a great weekend!
  9. Hello fellow waitlisters,

I haven't heard anything yet but will inform everyone when it happens!

    Cheers
  10. I'm just waiting for my deferral instruction package. I'm pretty sure once I get the instructions the first person on the waitlist is going to get an offer.
