UBC Nursing - Sep. 2012

World Canada CA Programs

Hello Everyone!

I am considering applying to UBC Nursing for the September 2012 intake... but I'm not quite sure if I'm eligible to apply...

My primary concern is my post-secondary credits... everyone seems to have already completed a Bachelor's before applying? As of now, I have 40+ credits... by the end of June 2010 I'll have 50+ credits (which is the deadline for all transcripts), but they're a combination of first-year science, calculus and language courses with only a couple of second year o-chem... would that be ok?

I am currently a Langara student, but I have studied at SFU before until my relocation.

I've also read on the website that the average age of applicants were 21-47 (please don't quote me on this, I can't remember the exact range)... and I'm now 18 (will soon turn 19 though), but I have the requirements it's just that I'm unsure if it's alright that my 50+ credits are mostly first-year...

My GPA now is 3.3 and hoping to boost it up after this semester...

I volunteer regularly at a senior home and am a certified lifeguard and swimming instructor, worked part-time at Timmys until relocation and now have a part-time job at a local grocery store... I just hope age isn't that big of a deal because I know what I want and I'm working for it...

Should I apply at all...

(Very Worried. HELP Please!!!)

Any advice will be greatly appreciated!!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!

Yay I just paid my deposit as well! Also for all of those wondering when you can register for a timetable, you can check that under 'registration' on your ssc account. If you don't see a time, go to my program under 'tools' and select nursing. You can also look at the standard timetables for nursing if you want to get a general idea of when classes will be.

I just accepted my offer on the SSC but I don't see any notifications regarding the deposit.

Where does it ask you to pay a deposit?

To accept the offer, I had to click through two pages and the third page required a $250 deposit (required by June 1st). Perhaps you didn't click through the acceptance offer far enough?

I have received an offer, but I am finishing my A+P course by the end of this month through AU. So if they can't get the transcript in time to UBC, it might be good news for those on the waitlist.

Is there a reason yours is $250 but mine is $100? I'm worried there is something else I didn't click or I missed something :S

EDIT: I was told that last year at least the 15th person on the waitlist got in, if that helps anyone. There might have been more after #15 that got in, but that's all I know.

Strange! Mine was $100 too!

Hey all,

Just paid my deposit via the Student Service Centre! One more step out of the way!

This is a bit of a pain, I know, but I am not on Facebook, so I'm wondering if I could be kept in the loop for a potential meet up by some other means? I'd love to meet y'all in person before school starts: it's been so great to feel connected through this forum for the last couple of months!

I can't PM anyone yet, but maybe after a couple of posts I could PM someone here and give them my email address so that I can be given details about any meetups that you have to be on Facebook to hear about?

When you are given the ability to send PM's, send me your email and I'll do my best to keep you in the loop (the only reason I might not is if I forget, but you can always fire me an email if you haven't heard from me).

Mine was $250. I doubt it really matters as it's just a tuition deposit, but it is strange. I'm not originally from UBC- maybe continuing UBC students have a lower deposit?

Also congrats to soandroid- it will NOT be long for you now! Good luck to all those on the waiting list. If previous years are any indication a lot of people are going to get in from it!

Hello fellow wait-listers and those who haven't heard back yet (@yiersan),

Keep us updated on the status of your position/application; you are still part of this application experience! Keep your head up and your hopes up- If it's meant to be now, it's meant to be. There's bound to be people who decide to turn down their invitation/can't submit everything on time.

All the best!

I got my rejection today, which makes life a lot easier. Have a great time, everyone!

I got my rejection today. I am applying another nursing school. Hope I will hear some good news soon. I think as a ESL student, I have some problems in understanding western culture, communication, healthcare system, and medical ethics. I hope I can overcome them gradually in my future study and work. It was a good experience to have had the UBC interview.

So happy to know Soandroid's ranking and I'm sure you're in a very good standing to get in. Good luck to Sonia and other wait-listers. As the email said, "The outcome of your application this year is not necessarily indicative of the outcome of a future application, or your suitability for a nursing career." Good luck to everyone.

I am also not a UBC student, so I agree this might be the reason for the difference in deposit fees.

Congrats to all those on the waitlist!

Can I ask when you will be finishing your course? I'm in the same boat as you. My last test is the 22nd. Really hoping that it will work out. My tutor has been positive but someone else from Athabasca that I talked to wasn't so positive but that was just the call centre.
