Second-Entry Nursing Programs - 2014 Hopeful

World Canada CA Programs

Published

Hi Everyone!

I'm starting this topic for those who are applying to 2nd-entry programs, to start in 2014.

A bit about myself:

I'll be applying to University of Ottawa and University of Toronto.

Graduated with a Social Science degree from Ottawa U w/ 7.2 CGPA (aka 3.33 on 4.0 scale, or a B+)

A lot of community involvement in health promotion, youth counseling programs, women's health research..

Currently taking the prerequisites...

I'm kind of nervous about the applications because I know how competitive these programs are... Any advice from current 2-year BScN students would be great!

Let's get this thread going

I hope that you somehow still get email notifications from this website because I am soooo curious as to what your average was in your last 10 courses to be accepted so late?!

i'm applying to trent compressed with an average in my last 10.0 of 77% and I know this is not very competitive, I don't know if I have a shot or not.

Congrats on getting accepted i hope your year's going great.

If you see this message, please, please, let me know what your average in the last 10.0 credits were for your undergrad in your app to trent!!! you can email me directly : [email protected]

thanks!!!!

I had a 9.3 average on McMaster's 12 Scale which is in the B+ range for my last 10 courses. I applied to Trent, Queens, U of T, Western & Humber. I got accepted into all of them except Western :) Good Luck!

@an16 I was wondering if you accepted Nipissing and started in September. If so how are you liking the program?

Thanks :)

Hey I just got accepted to trent for the compressed program. I am wondering if anyone else has had this and also just freaking out because school is suppose to start soon!

Hi Niezovas!

What was your average when you got accepted into Trent, if you don't mind me asking?

I am trying to figure out if I should take a chance and pay the application fee and apply this year, or just stay an extra semester upping my average.

@niezovas

@SarahLydia Hey, I was accepted to Trent for this year but couldn't attend for financial reasons. I have a 9.9 average for my last 10 courses on the McMaster scale which is around an 83%. I think you should still apply because people cancel their admission offers for various reasons (like I did). Also, many people sometimes don't want to attend nursing programs away from the GTA for logistical reasons. I'm applying again this year and hopefully receive an offer.

Hi MatchaGreenTea,

I am considering taking BIO 235 from Athabasca, and I wanted to know how it ended up going for you? How long did it take for you to complete, and how many hours per day did you spend on it? Did you have much of a science background, and did you find it difficult? Was it generally a hard or easy marking class?

Thank you so much, I am so worried about trying to choose a physiology course to meet the UofT accelerated BScN prerequisite. I really appreciate any guidance you can offer. kSkNAG1Wu0ppuYlEWlsiL8B+y2pZhOcuZRAAAAAElFTkSuQmCC

Hi isla88!

I just wanted to ask how Biol235 ended up going for you? I am about to start taking it and I'm so nervous!

Hi hopefulgal,

I'm taking BIOL 235. To be honest, I'm finding it quite difficult, I am surprised and discouraged given my background in science (BSc, MSc). BUT, I think this is more due to my poor study habits than the course itself. My grades are decent, but not my usual, and definitely not equivalent to the effort I am putting in. I am not enjoying this at all :( I would definitely recommend doing the UofT course instead IF it has slides and lecture recordings. Doing this course without lectures or slides is so so brutal for me.
